History of Skardu

Skardu is a city located at the base of the Karakoram mountain range in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It is the capital of Skardu District and lies at an altitude of 2,872 meters (9,350 ft) above sea level. The Karakoram Highway is a road connecting China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. It runs along the Karakoram Range, the world’s highest motorable road, and is the only route between Kashgar in Xinjiang and Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
