Rawalpindi is a northern Pakistan city located in the Punjab province Pakistan, located in the province of Punjab. It is the fourth-largest city in Pakistan and serves as the capital of the Rawalpindi District. Rawalpindi has a rich history and has been an important center of trade and commerce for centuries. It was founded in the 16th century by the Mughal Emperor Akbar, and has been a major transportation hub due to its strategic location along the Grand Trunk Road, which connects it to the major cities of Lahore and Peshawar.

The city was named Rawalpindi (meaning “Abode of the Rawals”) after the Rawal, a local chieftain who ruled the area in the 16th century.

During the British colonial period, Rawalpindi served as the headquarters of the British Indian Army. After the partition of India in 1947, Rawalpindi became part of Pakistan. Today, it is a major city and an important transportation hub, with a large military presence. It is also a center of education, with several universities and colleges located in the city.
