Awaran is a town in Balochistan, the province of Pakistan. As well as serving as the district headquarters the town is also the tehsil headquarters and a Union Council. It was created as a separate district. It is considered the poorest district in Balochistan. The population of this dity according to census 2007 is 480K. Over 98% of the people of the area are Muslims with a small Zikri minority. Agricultural production in the district is very limited with wheat being the principal crop. Besides wheat, barley is her major Rabi crop.
