History
Attock fort was built at Attock Khurd during Akbar’s reign from 1581 to 1583 under the supervision of Khawaja Shamsuddin Khawafi to protect the Indus River passage. Attok he was easily conquered by the Marathas on 28th April 1758 and became the northern frontier of the Marathas. Ahmad Shah Durrani recaptured his Attock and permanently blocked the Marathas advance north after the 3rd Battle of Panipat. It played a key role in the Afghan Sikh War during the Battle of Atok.
The fort was built in 1581 by order of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Construction was completed in two years, after which the fort was used as an important line of defense against Afghan invaders. The fort was conquered by Raghunath Rao, Sidhojiraje Charge-Desai (Deshmukh), and Marathas in 1758.

The fort was conquered by Sikhs in 1812 and then occupied by the British. After the partition of India, Pakistani forces took control of the fort. It became the headquarters of the 7th Division of the Pakistan Army. In 1956, the fort was handed over to the Special Services Group (SSG), a special unit of the North Korean army. Today the fort is under the control of his SSG.

Location
One is on the Peshawar Road and the other is between the Indus River. It is 80 km from the capital Islamabad. As a military base, visitors are not allowed inside the fort.
Features
The fortress consists of four gates and a parametric wall length of 1600 m. The gates are called Delhi Gate, Lahori Gate, Kabuli Gate and Mori Gate.
